Lesson to be lean from man’s best friend

Today I saw one of the saddest photograph on the Internet. It was about a man with his dog.

Jon Tumilson, a Navy SEAL, the youngest of three children of George and Kathleen, had wanted to be a Navy SEAL since he was a teenager. Friends and his two older sisters remembered a fearless soldier, and a Power Point presentation was shown that illustrated Tumilson’s active life outside of the military, which included scuba diving, martial arts, and triathlons.

But on August 6th, Jon Tumilson (otherwise know as JT) was one of 30 Americans killed in Afghanistan,  when a rocket-propelled grenade took out a U.S. Chinook helicopter. He was mourned at a service in Rockford, Iowa, attended by 1,500 family members, friends and Hawkeye, Tumilson’s dog.

The Labrador retriever was such an important part of Tumilson’s life that the friends and family of the San Diego resident called the dog his “son.”

At the funeral service, Hawkeye followed Tumilson’s good friend, Scott Nichols, as Nichols approached the stage to give a speech. As Nichols prepared to memorialize his friend, Hawkeye walked up to the casket at the beginning of the service and then dropped down with a heaving sigh as about 1,500 mourners witnessed a dog accompanying his master until the end.

The picture of Jon Tumilson’s dog Hawkeye lying next to the coffin at Tumilson’s funeral has captured the attention of people from literally around the world. While the image is one of sadness, there is a happy ending for Hawkeye.

Tumilson’s friend Scott Nichols, who had previously looked after Hawkeye while Tumilson was away on duty overseas, is now taking care of the dog. At the funeral Nichols said taking care of Hawkeye would be like having a part of Tumilson still around.

I did a run through and found many story of man and their best friends. There is a video of a Dog jumping up with joy as owner returns from Afghanistan posting after many years. Story about a Maltese dog when missing for years after a family outing got into a car crash which killed two member in the family, is finally headed home and Story of ‘Courtroom dog’ helps young rape victim testify … All very moving true story.

There are many lesson to be learn from our four legged friends who can’t speak our language, but their action, their unconditional love and their loyalty speak louder then our words. May Jon Tumilson rest in peace, Hawkeye is in good hang now.
